Due to the circumstances that led to Alex travelling from 2008 to the 1980s she doesn't believe anyone around her is real. She is unlikely to be too direct about this outside of times of high stress, but she will still make references to this and think about it since it's formative to the way she sees the world.
Other serious topics that have the potential to come up when interacting with Alex are gun violence and alcoholism.
In addition, while I'm not generally a huge fan of fourth walling it is something I find more interesting with Alex. If this is something you are okay with I would appreciate knowing! She is in her mid-30s in 2008, but since she has most recently been living in 1982 she also has greater familiarity with media she might otherwise be too young to remember.
